recent acquisitions due to purchases or donations.

Since the end of the 80's and 90's, there has been a revival of collection acquisitions due to donations or purchases that have been spurred on by research activites. In total 3,500 units of fossils were found in the Emilia Romagna, Veneto and Piemonte regions. In addition, dozens of interesting minerals have been added to the collection. The zoological area has seen a dramatic increase in its acquisitions including about 13,500 coleoptera (3,550 carabids), about 3,200 specimens of sweet water, earth and brackish molluscs, and 1,166 specimens of cones belonging to 635 different species coming from all over the world. The increase of the collections of hymenoptera has been remarkable too, while collections of lepidopters from around the world have been acquired. Over 1,600 specimens are collected now in the ornothological collections.
